Blowout in Andhra

On Thursday morning
at Thandavapalli village in the vicinity of Amalapuram in East Godavari district.
The flames touched 100 to 150 feet height at the time of blowout and gradually subsided by the evening.
The sounds were heard and the heat from the flames was experienced upto a radius of 1 KM.
Fortunately there were no casualities. The authorities said this mishap occured because of sudden increase in pressure when the well is being closed and gas rushed out catching the fire immeadiately in the 20 yr old well.
According to them, it is common that 1 out of 200 wells have a chance of blowout occassionally and it will be controlled by Crisis Management Team within 10 days.
