Here's a recipe for Bengali Pakora (Pakodi):
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Besan (gram flour)
- 1/4 cup Rice flour
- 1 Onion, thinly sliced
- 1 Potato, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 Green chili, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Ginger paste
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine besan, rice flour, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, ginger paste, garlic paste, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add water to the mixture while stirring continuously to form a smooth and thick batter.
- Add sliced onions, potatoes, and green chili to the batter. Mix well, ensuring all the slices are coated with the batter.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadai on medium heat.
- Once the oil is hot, drop small portions of the batter mixture into the oil using a spoon or your fingers.
- Fry the pakoras until they turn golden brown and crisp on all sides. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Remove the pakoras from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
- Serve the Bengali Pakoras hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.
